Yes, it really can — and I’ve written a book about how it can do this. It’s published by J. Wiley & Sons, and is a Scientific American Alternate Book Club Selection.
I´m reading about Bets Made with Odds in “How Math Can Save Your Life”
I understand that on a 4 to 1 odd I have to wager $20 to make $100… but what about a 7 to 2 bet, how much should I wager to make $100?
By wagering $20 at 4-1 you do not MAKE $100 – when you cash your winning 4-1 wager you GET BACK $100; the $20 you initially bet plus the $80 you win at 4-1 odds.
If you receive 7-2 odds, you must bet $22.22 to GET BACK $100. Well, not exactly, you’ll GET BACK $99.99 – the $22.22 you initially bet plus the $77.77 you win at 7-2 odds.
Hope this helps – and that you enjoy the rest of the book.
